wpid tinker tailor soldier spy movie image gary oldman slice 01 International Trailer for TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY

It may be a spy thriller, but Tomas Alfredson’s adaptation of John Le Carre’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy could have some juice this awards season.  Focus Features has set the flick for November 18th and buzz is already building up around Gary Oldman’s performance as George Smiley, a semi-retired spy tasked with rooting out a mole in MI-6.  The powerhouse cast also includes Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Ciarán Hinds, Stephen Graham, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

The international trailer for the film has been released and it looks like Alfredson has really nailed the suspense of the story while side-stepping the predictable tropes of the spy genre.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Toby Jones and John Hurt.  Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy opens in the UK on September 16th, and it’s possible the flick could show up at the Venice Film Festival and/or the Toronto International Film Festival.

Trailer via In Contention.

Here’s the synopsis for John Le Carre’s novel:

It is now beyond doubt that a mole, implanted decades ago by Moscow Centre, has burrowed his way into the highest echelons of British Intelligence. His treachery has already blown some of its most vital operations and its best networks. It is clear that the double agent is one of its own kind. But which one? George Smiley is assigned to identify him. And once identified, the traitor must be destroyed. [Amazon]

wpid apollo 18 slice11 New Trailer for APOLLO 18

The theatrical trailer for the found-footage thriller Apollo 18 has been released. It’s pretty much Paranormal Activity in space, as it uses the same stationary/hand-held camera set-up and the scares consist of shadows and people being thrashed around by invisible entities. Seriously, the similarities between this film and Paranormal Activity border on carbon copy. That being said, if the found-footage genre is your thing, then this is probably right up your alley.

Produced by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted), the story revolves around archived footage that reveals the U.S. launched one last secret mission to the moon before the Apollo program was terminated. As expected, the American astronauts encounter much more than moon rocks. Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Apollo 18 opens September 2nd.

wpid 30 minutes or less movie image jesse eisenberg aziz ansari slice 022 New Trailer for 30 MINUTES OR LESS

A new green band trailer for director Ruben Fleischer’s (Zombieland) comedy 30 Minutes or Less has been released. It’s more or less a clean version of the most recent red band trailer, but it’s still a lot of fun. Everything I’ve seen from this movie so far has been pretty much spot-on. Fleischer’s put together a great cast, and the pairing of Eisenberg and Ansari is fantastic.

Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari, Nick Swardson, Dilshad Vadsaria and Michael Pena, the film centers on a pizza delivery guy (Eisenberg) who is kidnapped by two men (McBride and Swardson) and forced to rob a bank at the risk of being blown up. Hit the jump to watch the trailer. If you missed it, check out Steve’s set visit report/video blog, in addition to his on-set interviews with Eisenberg, Ansari and Vadsaria, Swardson and McBride, and Fleischer. 30 Minutes or Less hits theaters August 12th.

wpid horrible bosses movie image slice 011 Red Band Trailer for HORRIBLE BOSSES

A red band trailer for Seth Gordon’s Horrible Bosses has been released. While the green band trailer has some good laughs, this trailer gives a better idea of how the film’s gonna play out. The jokes are spot-on, and every member of the fantastic cast is bringing their A-game. Whoever put Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis together is a genius. I can’t wait to finally see the whole film.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. And if you missed any of Steve’s coverage from the set, check out his interviews with Jason Bateman, Charlie Day and Jason Sudeikis, director Seth Gordon and producer Jay Stern, as well as his full set visit report. Horrible Bosses also stars Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston and Jamie Foxx. The film opens July 8th.

Here’s the trailer (via MSN):

Here’s the official synopsis for Horrible Bosses:

For Nick (Bateman), Kurt (Sudeikis) and Dale (Day), the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses (Spacey, Farrell, Aniston) into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con (Foxx), the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers…permanently. There’s only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.

wpid footloose movie poster slice1 First Trailer and Poster for FOOTLOOSE Remake

The first trailer and poster for director Craig Brewer’s (Black Snake Moan) Footloose remake are now available online. Featuring some nifty dance moves and a “Debbie Downer” turn from Dennis Quaid, the film looks to have plenty of style and hopefully enough substance to pacify moviegoers looking for more than a rurally set Step Up. Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, and Andie MacDowell star alongside Quaid in the pic which aims to update Kevin Bacon’s 1984 original about a city boy who moves to a small town where dancing (which is apparently his number one skill) is outlawed.

Check out the trailer and poster after the jump. Footloose hits theaters on October 14th.

wpid rise of the planet of the apes slice1 New Trailer, Images, and Poster for RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES

We’ve got a slew of monkey news for you today. A UK trailer and poster, as well as a batch of new images from Rise of the Planet of the Apes have been released. This international trailer looks to be the best one yet. I think it gets the tone just right, plus we get our first look at the apes standing up (next step, clothes). I still don’t think an Apes reboot is necessary, but I think a sequel to Rise, wherein we see the apes begin to build society anew, would be much more interesting than this film. Nevertheless, the effects on the apes keep looking better and better each time we see a new trailer. The new images released give us a great look at some of WETA Digital’s work.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, poster, and images. Starring James Franco, Andy Serkis, Tom Felton, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, and Freida Pinto, Rise of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on August 5th.

Here’s the UK trailer courtesy of The Sun (via Omelete):

wpid a dangerous method movie image viggo mortensen slice 011 Trailer for David Cronenberg’s A DANGEROUS METHOD

The first trailer for director David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method has been released, and it’s fantastic. Based on Christopher Hampton’s 2002 play The Talking Cure, the film centers on the relationship between Carl Jung (played by Michael Fassbender), his mentor Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen), and Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley), the woman who came between them. The trailer is intense, showcasing what are sure to be some powerhouse performances, as well as a score by Howard Shore. Oh, and there’s sex. Lots of sex. This is Cronenberg after all. Sony Pictures Classics is set to release the film, hopefully sometime this year. Hit the jump to watch the trailer for yourself.

Here’s the trailer, which you can also watch at the film’s official site.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Seduced by the challenge of an impossible case, the driven Dr. Jung (Michael Fassbender) takes the unbalanced yet beautiful Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley) as his patient in A DANGEROUS METHOD. Jung’s weapon is the method of his master, the renowned Sigmund Freud. Both men fall under Sabina’s spell.

wpid war horse movie image jeremy irvine slice 011 First Trailer for Steven Spielberg’s WAR HORSE [Updated]

[Update: We have updated the article with the English-language version which is also higher-quality video]

A Spanish trailer for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of War Horse has leaked online.  The movie charts the journey of a horse named Joey and his quest to reunite with a farmer’s son named Albert (Jeremy Irvine) against the backdrop of World War I.  Disney should release the official trailer soon, but the quality of this version is sufficient for now.  If you were hoping for a sweeping epic with a soaring John Williams score, the new clip promises just that.

Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberpatch, Patrick Kennedy, Emily Watson, Toby Kebbell, David Thewlis, Eddie Marsan, and Peter Mullan also star.  War Horse opens December 28th. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Click here for all our War Horse coverage.

To be honest, this looks like the very best in movies that just aren’t for me. I am sure it will earn all the Oscar nominations — especially the technical categories — the Academy wishes to bestow.

Official synopsis:

From director Steven Spielberg comes “War Horse,” an epic adventure for audiences of all ages. Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, “War Horse” begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets—British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter—before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.

The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse—an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. “War Horse” is one of the great stories of friendship and war—a successful book, it was turned into a hugely successful international theatrical hit that is arriving on Broadway next year. It now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history.

wpid mission impossible ghost protocol slice1 First Trailer for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL

Paramount has released the first trailer for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the fourth entry in the spy franchise. The trailer is pretty much everything you want out of a Mission: Impossible movie, and it looks like it could be the best yet. The action looks great without being cheesy or showy, and the cast assembled here is top-notch. Plus, freaking Brad Bird (Ratatouille) is making his live-action directorial debut.

Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames reprise their series roles, joined by Jeremy Renner, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor, Léa Seydoux, and Vladimir Mashkov. Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams is on board as producer.  Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens on December 16.  Watch the trailer after the jump.
